SEO or search engine optimization knowledge is critical when starting your online journey. Whether you desire to be a blogger, manage an online store or do just about anything online, you need to find a way how to get noticed by search engines (get as many SEO tips as you can) so that people can find you. Understanding SEO is fundamental for anyone who wants to be successful in the online world.
An important aspect of search engine optimization is the fact that you need to invest time and effort into your website regularly to get traffic and to keep traffic continuously increasing. Click To Tweet If you just create your website and then leave it like that it won’t do much good for you.
Here you will find the top five SEO tips to get you started.
SEO Tip #1:
There is no instant (fairytale) recipe. Not one that will last, anyway. So it’s important to keep track of the latest SEO news. Explore the web, find relevant information and read everything you can. You’ll find contradictory info everywhere but knowledge is power so learn as many SEO facts as you can.
SEO Tip # 2:
Create a website design with a simple homepage, clear navigation menu, and a sitemap. This way, your visitors and search engine crawlers will find their way around it easily.
SEO Tip # 3:
Determine what your focus keywords are. There are a lot of amazing free tools out there that can help you. Usually, it’s fairly easy to figure this out on your own.
Ask yourself:
What are the top three to five words or phrases you would use if you are searching for a product or topic online? Always include these words (main keywords) on every page on your website, post and page titles, headings and throughout the whole content of each page. It’s a good idea to use variations as well to give your site extra credibility and increase the Long Tail.
SEO Fact: Content is king. Always will be. Click To Tweet
SEO Tip # 4:
Don’t assume that more is better in terms of keywords. Don’t become a victim of simple keyword stuffing. If you do this, two things will happen for sure. First, search engines will ban you or even worse, your visitors will ignore you. Remember, search engines and your visitors are not stupid. They will see through your silly SEO attempts to trick them to get onto your site.
Instead, try to find that silver lining between having just the right amount of keywords to make it impossible for search engines to ignore you but not too much of them to make your visitors run because of your poor quality content. Yes, I know, it’s a constant struggle. Even hire a professional SEO content writer if you have to.
Always have current content on your website and change your content regularly. Click To Tweet
You don’t need to waste all that good old content, instead move it to archives. It will continue to work for you just as well.
SEO Tip # 5:
Web 2.0 (also known as Social Web) is all about social networking. Social networking and sharing, engaging on forums, and link exchange can be of great value if you want to get high ranking websites in your niche to exchange links with you. If you are a blogger, comment on other blogs in your niche to get a link back to your site. If you use platforms like Digg, Mix (StumbleUpon) or Flipboard, you can bring relevant traffic really quick and that can spread so fast because others will do the same. Remember, social networking is also indexed by search engines.

Thank you for these tips Karmen – I totally agree with you! There are so many posts I read where so called SEO gurus are sharing “loopholes” that will help people rank on Google and I cringe when I read that.
The process is really simple – Google wants to match searches with the best and most relevant content… so make your content really good and yes use keywords and put them in the right places. There are plenty of little things that can be done to juice up SEO and I find it so much fun learning these things and implementing them on my websites.
I am learning the ropes of SEO, just got the hang of using the keywords, long tail keywords still flummox me though.
Agree about keyword stuffing. Posts with too many keywords make for an irritating read. Thank you sharing this wonderful tips and reminders, Karmen!!

Intresting post and That was an informative post. Yes, it is not possible to rank number #1 within six months with white HAT SEO activities. SEO is a long-term resulting technique. Using right techniques will take time but will deliver quality results that last long.
This a very well written article for anyone new to digital marketing. Very well explained and excellent references to paint the picture. My favorite tip you hit was #4 and avoid keywords stuffing. One it’s just lazy and two it doesn’t work. I dislike when I see people keyword stuffing their meta descriptions as opposed to writing something useful to the searcher to increase clicks.
